Why the Reference Exists
Printed Santa Cruz directories became less common, but the records behind them remain in separate systems. The Santa Cruz County Assessor and Recorder divide the present-day property and deed trail, while elections, courts and vital-record custodians answer different questions. Older volumes and local evidence are held by Santa Cruz Public Libraries, UCSC Special Collections, the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History and state collections. The office names, links, years and access limits are gathered here to make that split easier to navigate.
What These Pages Connect
- Pages by angle: the Santa Cruz street directory, historical city directory collections, resident lookup, residents by ZIP, previous residents search and neighbors lookup
- The local custodians: Santa Cruz County Assessor, 701 Ocean Street, Room 130, Real Property 831-454-2270; Santa Cruz County Recorder and Santa Cruz County Clerk; Santa Cruz Superior Court; elections offices and vital-record desks
- Research shelves: Santa Cruz Public Libraries, UCSC Special Collections, the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, newspapers, maps and directory scans
- Access rules: what California law opens, what remains restricted, and how a focused public-records request works when a portal is not enough
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not an arm of the City of Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, a California agency, court, library or records custodian. The limits are important:
- We cannot establish that a named person currently lives in Santa Cruz
- We cannot retrieve, certify or correct a record for you
- We cannot place a person on, or remove a person from, an official roll or database
- We cannot provide legal advice about a record, claim or dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every link, coverage year or office detail remains current
Only the custodian can verify, certify or correct its record. The Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. ยงยง 1681-1681x, means no linked information may be used for credit, employment, housing, insurance or another FCRA-regulated decision. Do not use records to stalk, harass or harm a person.
